Summer has brought plenty of new restaurant openings to Metro Detroit, but also a handful of shutters. From the last remaining Hooters to bakeries to longtime Italian favorites, the following is a list of spots that have recently said goodbye.
8 Metro Detroit Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know in July
Hooters has flown the coop

The Shutter, a regular roundup of Detroit and metro Detroit’s restaurant closures, is your resource to find out what’s on its way out. The list is by no means comprehensive. Have information on another closing? Send all tips to detroit@eater.com.
June
DOWNTOWN — After a two-year run, Good Cakes and Bakes has closed its location in the District Detroit. The bakery is known for organic and vegan-friendly cakes and pastries, like strawberry crunch cake and peach cobbler cookies. The team explained in a post on Instagram that it decided not to renew the lease in order to focus on its original location in Bagley. 22 W. Columbia Street.
ALLEN PARK — Italian stalwart Moro’s Dining threw in the towel after 45 years. The Allen Park restaurant served classics like veal marsala, shrimp scampi, and cherries jubilee. In 2022, owner Thomas Moro put the restaurant up for sale with the intention of retiring. A phone call to Moro’s leads to a voicemail message thanking guests for their support and states that “chef Thomas Moro is doing fine.” 6535 Allen Road.
GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Longstanding Italian restaurant Ferlito’s had its last service in late June. In a post on social media, owner Joshua Mowen cited the costs of maintaining the aging building as one of the reasons for shuttering. Ferlito’s opened in the ‘70s, with Mowen buying it in 2015. Fans can still get a taste of the restaurant at Ferlito’s Pizzeria in St. Claire Shores, a takeout and delivery operation serving pizzas, pastas, ribs, and sandwiches. 20745 Mack Avenue.
MACOMB — Fried dough lovers in Macomb said goodbye to longtime bakery Willie’s Donuts. They’ll still be able to satisfy their sweet tooth, though, as Golden Donuts plans to open its third location in the space. 23055 21 Mile Road.
ROYAL OAK — Pinky’s Rooftop has shuttered. The six-year-old restaurant featured a lush outdoor garden terrace, pink décor, and a menu with items like popsicle drinks and cotton candy. The Pearl Room, which is located below Pinky’s and run by the same hospitality group — Adam Merkel Restaurants, remains open. 100 S Main Street.
SOUTHGATE — It’s the end of the line for Super Baked, a dessert shop in Downriver. After three and a half years, the bakery announced its closing via a social media post. It specialized in cupcakes, cookies, and vegan-friendly options. 18714 Eureka Road.
TAYLOR — The last Hooters in Metro Detroit is no more. The sports bar, popular for its chicken wings and servers dressed in tank tops and short orange shorts, closed its outpost in Taylor back in June. Michigan’s only remaining Hooters is in Saginaw. The chain filed for bankruptcy in April but intends to continue operations under a franchise-only model. 21250 Eureka Road.
WARREN — Firenze Restaurant & Pizzeria, which had been around for six decades, closed abruptly in June. Gordon Ramsay was rumored to have recently visited the restaurant to film for his new show Secret Service. Firenze served Italian-American and classic American fare, but when the restaurant reopened after remodeling, the overhauled menu was reportedly missing many customer favorites. 11028 E 10 Mile Road.
