Forest Grill to Refocus and Serve Dinner Only

Birmingham’s Forest Grill has announced that they will be cancelling lunch service and adding Monday dinners starting next Monday, April 7th. Chef/Owner Brian Polcyn decided that it was time for the restaurant to refocus. They’ll begin emphasizing “tasting menus that feature regional seasonal ingredients and a unique mixology program” with the assistance of Chef de Cuisine Nick Janutol. He reiterates that the restaurant is not closing, but instead moving in a new direction. This is in part likely due to Birmingham’s changing tastes in food. Chef Polcyn is best known for his contributions to modern charcuterie and traditional European techniques. The restaurant has won awards since its opening, including Hour Detroit Restaurant Of The Year in 2009. Forest Grill has additionally been a training ground for young local talent, including David Gilbert, whose new restaurant Marais, in Grosse Pointe, was the most recently named Hour Detroit Restaurant Of The Year. However, Forest Grill’s fine dining concept wasn’t working as the Birmingham lunch crowd moved towards more casual restaurants in recent years. Going forward, the restaurant “will focus only on private parties and special events” during lunch hours. In addition, they plan to bolster dinner service by incorporating more special events and themed dinners into their schedule. Their upcoming calendar includes a monthly oyster club, “Springtime in Paris” and Morel dinners, as well as cooking classes. They will also be moving into more community involvement through Birmingham’s evening farmer’s market.
