More Sheetz Locations Are Coming to Southeast Michigan

Detroit area Sheetz Freakz, rejoice. More Sheetz locations are on the horizon for metro Detroit. The family-owned, Altoona-Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain announced in a news release issued to media this week that two locations are confirmed, one on Middlebelt Road, just north of Interstate 94 in Romulus, and the other in on the eastside on 23 Mile just east of 94 in Chesterfield. Opening dates have not be released as of yet. Last summer, the company announced that it would open its first Michigan location at 33380 Wick Road in Romulus. That spot hasn’t opened yet, but the chain anticipates that it will open around the second half of 2024. In regional gas station food lore, there are few chains that enjoy such fandom as Sheetz. Rival Wawa, based in Chester Heights in the greater Philly region, helps to fuel the intrigue. Sheetz has more than 700 locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. Fans are commonly referred to as Sheetz Freakz, and a podcast called Freakz in the Sheetz also exists, providing commentary on the chain’s iconic 24-hour, made-to-order food offerings. Macomb County HopCat Come this summer, HopCat will open a location at the Mall at Partridge Creek in Macomb County’s Clinton Township. According to a news announcement distributed to media this week, the new spot will take over the space formerly occupied by BurgerFin at 7380 Hall Road. The location is 7,000 square feet and has a capacity for up to 250 customers. Being situated in metro Detroit’s dog mall, the outdoor patio is pooch-friendly. West Michigan-based Project BarFly, which operates HopCat, is expected to begin looking to fill 125 positions starting in March. HopCat opened two locations in metro Detroit in recent months, including in Livonia and Royal Oak. Bacco opens on Monday In the final weeks of service for Southfield legend Bacco Ristorante, the beloved eatery will be open on Mondays through its final day of service, March 23, according to a news release published this week. The Italian restaurant experienced a significant rise in reservations made — particularly during the weekends — following news last month that the 22-year-old establishment would be closing for good this spring, a company spokesperson confirmed with Eater Detroit.
